Program Profile
Midwifery is a special area of expertise and a respectable profession, based on a certain level of primary health education. In countries where midwifery is carried out according to international standards, cesarean rates are low, breastfeeding rates are high, natural birth rates are high, and interventions applied at birth are less. Maternal and infant deaths are almost nonexistent.
The purpose of the Midwifery Program is to implement an education system parallel to world standards. Another aim of this program is to support non-governmental organizations and associations that struggle to achieve the necessary dignity and roles of midwives and to train respected and equipped midwives who are aware of their responsibilities. The Midwifery Department attaches great importance to field-academy cooperation and adopts an integrated system in practice.
KTO Karatay University’s Department of Midwifery sheds light on our region and country, offers a parallel education system to the world standards and supports non-governmental organizations as well as associations in Turkey which struggle to get necessary respect and roles of midwives. Our Midwifery Department performs the undergraduate program by applying the ICM core competencies and by modeling the EU Midwifery Directives (80/154 / EEC-80/155 / EEC).
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the program can find a job in all institutions such as maternity hospitals, inpatient treatment institutions, maternity and gynecology services, antenatal care and polyclinics, neonatal services, family planning, and maternal and child health centers, infertility centers, prenatal education classes, women's health. Graduates can also work as self-employed midwives.
In addition to all these, our graduates can also work as managers, responsible midwives, clinical midwives, and educator midwives in State, private, and university hospitals. By opening private health cabins and, or patient care houses, they can practice their profession freely.
Finally, our graduates of the Midwifery Department can work as a teacher in Health Vocational High Schools by taking the formation training given in education faculties.
